Herbal Brain Tonic - Caffeine free

Herbal brain tonic with herbs

Herbal Brain Tonic

I came up with this brain tonic recipe so that I can enjoy a warm and uplifting drink in the morning without the jittery effects of caffeine. And also to help with my detoxification problem as going caffeine-free is part of my cleanse.
These three herbal ingredients work wonderfully together AND it tastes good too! It’s not a bitter brew that you have to toss down for the sake of “being good”.

Recipe:
1 Tablespoon ashwaganda root, chopped
5 - 6 rose buds
1 Tablespoon gotu kola leaves

8 oz. filtered water, brought to a boil

1/2 teaspoon raw honey (optional)

  1. Place ingredients in a teapot or French press.

  2. Add in the hot water and steep for 8 - 10 minutes.

  3. Strain and sip slowly.

In case you are not familiar with the health benefits of the ingredients, here’s a brief description:

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Traditionally used in Ayurveda as an adaptogen and nervine, helping to release stress while also being grounding and supporting cognitive function.
Other benefits include balancing blood sugar and may also decrease food cravings.

Roses (Rosa damascene or other varietals)

Rose tea has been an essential part of Traditional Chines Medicine for centuries.
It is used to balance and strengthen “qi” and has been used to address fatigue, irritability and mood swings, menstrual cramps, and other PMS symptoms, and is nourishing to the heart center.

Kotu kola (Centella asiatica)

Also known as Brahmi, this is one of Ayurveda's most respected herbs for mental rejuvenation. It is reputed to enhance brain function while soothing the nervous system.
It is also suitable for gentle detoxification and promotes healthy skin and hair.
